RW: Do They Ever Return to Possess The Living?

returning videotapes weekly recap october 2017

post title: tagline from The Innocents (1961)

Here it is, the first weekly recap on the new blog! It used to be called FWeekly but that had to change, so I opted for Rewind (abbreviation, RW), keeping with the whole VHS theme. So let’s get on with the movies and tv shows I’ve seen this month, new podcast episodes, and the wonderfully creepy October Horror feature recap!

Indie Spotlight: The Story of 90 Coins

Worth watching this week was Michael Wong’s directorial debut, The Story of 90 Coins, a short film that takes a bittersweet look at life and love. I know my pal Katy over at Oh So Geeky liked it, too. You can read her full review for an in-depth look at this romantic short film, knowing that I fully agree with her!

October Horror: 2017 Edition

As is tradition, October means the return of October Horror, in which I watch classics, cult, and modern gems of the genre, that I haven’t seen before. I’m hoping that by the end of the month I’ll have an updated list of my all-time favourites. Here are some movies I’m attempting to watch this month: The Innocents, The Elephant Man, I Saw The Devil, Dark Water, Diabolique, Possession, Thirst, and It Follows. Check out my full horror watchlist, and my favourite movies so far.

With Voyager on my nightstand it will be difficult to read anything else, but I might be able to read The Turn of The Screw by Henry James, and begin The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson.

Television: What I’ve Been Watching & News!

Or rather, what I inexplicably haven’t been watching: Outlander. Season 3 premiered over a month ago and I can’t bring myself to watch it. I rewatched the previous two seasons and loved them more than ever, and now I guess I’m scared of all the emotions. How silly is that?!

What I have been watching and is fully in season, is The Exorcist. This anthology horror series, that started as a sequel to the original movie, is back – and it is amazing. We leave the Rance family behind and are introduced to a foster home, where actor John Cho (Star Trek) plays Andy, caretaker of five kids, one of which seems to be the target of a new demon. Marcus and Tomas remain as leads, and the Vatican storyline is still the backdrop for it all.

I’ve also seen the first couple of episodes of the Will & Grace reboot, and it’s actually pretty good. In exciting news, The X-Files is returning in January 2018. Considering how it ended, it’s not really a surprise.

Have You Met the New Chick?

Our movie podcast, Across the Universe, is back with a new Chick with Accent! The first episode after Mette’s Farewell was about the best Marvel films, so have a listen if you love superheroes as much as we do, and meet the newest chick!

On the next episode, which airs on the 24th, we will host a Halloween Special of Three Non-Horror Scary Movies. Send us your favourites in the comments or on twitter, and we’ll share them on the air!

I’m digging the new name! I need to watch some old horror classics again…I did it a few years ago, and I had a blast. I hadn’t seen things like Evil Dead, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and some real oldies. It’s always fun to see what you’ve missed. Thanks for the link!

Thanks, Courtney! I was a little unsure when I first thought of it, but now I love it.

The Evil Dead is great, you should definitely see it. I haven’t seen The Texas Chain Saw Massacre either, shhh…! ?

The Blu Ray says ‘third season’ not ‘The Return’ 🙂
