June’s viewing have already surpassed May’s, and were only half way through the month, so you can see why I’ve only logged eleven movies
last month. Movie viewings seemed to only go down for me in May, I guess due to how many season finales we witnessed – TV pretty much consumed any time I had to see something.
Here are my favourite new-to-me films from last month:
Directed by GARETH EDWARDS
Starring AARON JOHNSON, KEN WATANABE, BRYAN CRANSTON and ELIZABETH OLSEN
Knowing close to nothing going in, the plot alone was an exciting surprise that provided a solid structure to this thrilling blockbuster. Godzilla kept me on the edge of my seat for two hours of imposing cinematography, grand catastrophes, and superb acting from everyone involved.
Directed by STEVEN SODERBERGH
Starring ROONEY MARA, JUDE LAW, CHANNING TATUM and CATHERINE ZETA-JONES
Though not mind-blowing, I thoroughly enjoyed it – especially the works of Law and Mara. It has an eerie atmosphere that I find attractive, and enough twists to prevent my mind from stalling; but Side Effects is not as intense as I expected it to be, and ultimately that prevented it from becoming a favourite.
What Comes Next
The two weeks left in June
will be rather quiet — I’d like to still be a part of a couple of web events
, and write something special about Michael Haneke’s Funny Games
. For some reason that film has really been on my mind lately. Instagram
will continue to be updated with Mad Men
related things from season one and on.
What was the best movie you saw in May? If you still remember…
