Oscars ’14 Visual Diary | & Links
The last and most anticipated award show of the season is over, and since all of this is a bit of yesterday’s news, I won’t get into analysing who won what. Suffice to say that pretty much all our wishes and expectations, as expressed on our podcast oscar special, were met. Except for that one loss (aka why I didn’t watch the oscars live) that threw half the internet into a sappy meltdown. But let’s look on the bright side:

– Naomi Watts wrote a fan letter to Cate Blanchett.
– Jimmy Kimmel punched hateful twitters in the face. This only helps his point.
– Spike Jonze is not a middle aged asian (don’t ask). Here’s the aftermath of that revelation
– The best red carpet moment featured Jonah Hill and Bradley Cooper.
– Actually no, scratch that. Kevin Spacey takes that award.

– We got to know the Dern family tree
– Lupita Nyong’o, Amy Adams and Meryl Streep danced with Pharrell.
– Ellen did a great opening monologue, crashed twitter, and got pizzas for everyone. Brad Pitt was on plate duty.
– The pizza delivery guy walked away with a $1,000 tip.
– The music during Idina Menzel’s act was a bit too loud and there may have been some hiccups, but here’s her cozy performance with Jimmy Fallon and The Roots just because.
– Lupita delivered the most beautiful speech of the night. Spoiler: Cumberbatch cries.
– Favourite presenters include Robert De Niro with Penélope Cruz (who simply looked right together), and Angelina Jolie with Sidney Poitier.
– De Niro getting distracted during Spike Jonze’s speech.
Martin Scorsese’s face when Alfonso Cuarón won.
– They made some really beautiful images this year, particularly for the best picture nominees.
– Steve McQueen jumped on stage from sheer happiness, after wining Best Picture. Doesn’t he strike you as someone with a huge heart? Also, he claps in a funny way
– And lastly, there were too many familiar artists in the In Memoriam feature this year, but I suppose that will only get worse with time.

– Ellen did a whole video montage of backstage happenings, including this.
– Some alternative view photos from sunday night, by Getty Images.
